An Umbrella policy is an excess liability policy written with $1,000,000 or more limits. It provides additional liability coverage in addition to your homeowners and automobile liability coverage. The cost is around $200. In this sue crazy environment, this is an excellent policy.

Floater policies cover jewelry, computers, silver, art, and other types of personal property. Homeowners coverage usually has a limit on what you will receive if you have a loss of valuable items. You can insure the full value of these types of personal property by purchasing a floater policy.

Q. Does my policy cover plumbing repairs?
A. The key is whether the problem is a "sudden break". Leaky pipes are not covered but a pipe that bursts and damages your property would be covered. Remember that the pipes themselves are not covered by any damage done to floors or walls is covered.

Q. What is the difference between "medical payments" and "liability" coverage?
A. Liability covers your defense if someone should sue you because they got hurt on your property or as a result of your activities. However, you cannot have a "criminal" intent. If you accidentally should hit someone or their car with a shopping cart, you would be covered.
If you deliberately hit them, you would not be covered. Medical payments cover you if someone gets hurt but you are not legally responsible. Typically medical payments are called "emergency room" payments. If your neighbor should spill a cup of coffee on their arm and burn themselves, your medical payments coverage would cover a trip to the doctor.

Q. Is damage done by pets covered?
A. Generally damage done by pets is not covered. Damage done to your personal property by birds would ordinarily not be covered.
